An Appreciation of Gerald Green
After watching the Rockets all regular season and postseason games since 2015 or so, I’ve come to a (slightly) irrational conclusion. My favorite NBA, and Houston Rocket, is Gerald Green.
Of course, watching stars like James Harden, Chris Paul, LeBron James, Steph Curry is special. And guys like Clint Capela, Dario Saric, and Kyle Kuzma who have roles and do their best job in them are cool too. Especially Capela because he’s young, fun to watch, and has improved year-over-year.
But Gerald Green is absolutely fearless. He shoots threes with an irrational confidence and they seem to go in frequently.
Green’s story of a hometown hero and Houston native makes everything he’s been doing for the Rockets even better. Green looks genuinely grateful for every minute he gets to play and often makes the most of it. It has been really fun to watch him get a pass and then immediately launch a fading three. His catch-and immediately-shoot philosophy is an almost perfect representation of the Houston Rockets own offensive system.
Anyway, that’s a brief ode to my favorite random NBA player. Gerald Green’s irrational confidence and willingness to shoot is so much fun to watch.
